i think only one group got awkwardly left out because they didn’t live close enough to either place, but we weren’t that close and it wasn’t a big deal. we also had enough room for our entire wedding party to stay with us (and photographer and officiant, both friends), and even my service dog was allowed. all our decor was pretty little knickknacks and things related to our interests that we collected at thrift stores/estate sales/antique fairs for a couple of years leading up to the wedding. we had to insist on paying him because he had never done a wedding before and he was nervous, but i’m totally happy with our choice. we got exactly that and as a bonus we got to hang out with our buddy all weekend instead of posing for a stranger.
i could have… but i just didn’t have the budget for certain full service vendors and fees, so i let it go. i love this idea and plan but looks like air bnb stopped allowing anyone anywhere to have a gathering of more than 16 people (overnight or just visiting) in august of 2020. so only maybe could you have a micro micro wedding at an airbnb. my partner and i wanted to do our wedding for under $5k. i talked with my partner and he said he’d rather pay a little more to have the hassle be less. our newsletter is the best way to keep up with us — we’ll email you a couple times a week with tools, advice, inspo, discounts, and more! we now have over 7k posts celebrating nontraditional folks trying to build weddings full of intention and personality.
edited to add- i agree, keep your guest list small. the only way you can cut corners is to have a very small guest list! eta: for reference on the guest count, i am having about 80 people and spending around 14k. find a reasonably priced dress and suit, hire a good photographer, and take your small group out to a nice dinner. it is possible to have a $6000 budget- mine is $5000. however, i have a relatively small guest list and i live in a very small tn town. chances are any venue i find is going to be cheaper than a lot of other people’s. our venue for the ceremony and reception is our church, which saves a lot!
honestly, one of the biggest things is to shop around online until you find the cheapest price on things. cutting corners always comes back to bite you in the ass. eta: shop sales, wait for specials, use coupons, use ebates & ibotta, skip stds, get invitations from vista print or print them yourselfs, hire a caterer and supply your own alcohol (if venue allows) keep it very, very small (10-20 max with that budget, but it will also depend on other factors). or take your very small group to a nice dinner after a short and sweet ceremony. photos are the one thing left (besides a spouse) after the wedding, so save room to capture your special day (even if you have to cut corners elsewhere). so look into centerpieces you can diy and then this forum is really good for sharing diy centerpieces and getting feedback. and then go to a fancy dinner. another example would be to indulge on a wedding gown way outside your planned gown budget and sacrifice alcoholic/non-alcoholic beverages in order to afford said gown.
