hexagon arbor plans

this is diy plans to make the wedding arbor. this portable hexagon wedding arbor is the perfect centerpiece to any memorable wedding! the cost of materials is about $75 for the project, you’ll need basic tools like a pocket-hole jig, saw, power drill, measurement tape, and sand paper. this was super easy to build. my husband bought all of the supplies, and we built it within 2 days. a friend built this for our wedding using the blueprint.

i love the look and now we have plans to put it in our new backyard! the plans for this were very easy to follow and clear! my husband helped my partner and i build it for our wedding planning business, but we can easily transport it to weddings and break it down and set it up ourselves without him. my husband is very handy but we didn’t feel like going through all the steps of doing it completely “diy” so this was a great way to meet in the middle. the plans give you exactly what you see in the pictures. already used it once and will continue to use for several more events!! we made a few adjustments to transport easier but the assembly and look is just as shown in the pictures.

i wanted my piece to have a bit of a thinner profile, so i planed down evenly on all four sizes each piece so that it removed the rounded edge – the final width of each piece was around 3.2″ (pic 3). i then took it over to the miter saw and cut it up into a bunch of smaller dowels (pic 5), then beveled the edges slightly to make hammering in to place easier (pic 6) – also optional but i recommend it. then, using a straight edge, i marked tapers on the front and back of the piece – i didn’t have measurements in mind going into this – but the conceptual direction i followed was to have the front tapers shorter than the back ones. i then used my taper jig from rockler to cut the tapers (pic 5) – very easy, quick, and safe.

set up only took 5 minutes and i was so excited to see the build in it’s final location. the best part is, after the wedding, it was just as easy to break down, transport back home, and set up in our backyard – still figuring our a final location, but knowing we have it for as long as we want to keep it is really great! honestly – i don’t remember, you’re better off making sure all of your 4 x 4s are equal length, and then marking the proper angle to be cut – the result will be the proper interior length across the board. after your done enjoying it you can break it down and make it part of the crib for your kids.
